What is Solargraphy?

Solargraphy is applying the technique of pinhole photography with long exposure time to record the solar track (sun path). The exposure time can vary from few weeks to years in order to capture the sun’s path on sky.

The concept of solargraphy originates from an artist called Tarja Trygg from Finland. She started to make mini-pinhole camera to record solar track since 2002.  She became curious about different angles of solar tracks in different places with different attitudes.

How to take Solargraphy photos?

Make a pinhole camera and load it with light-sensitive material: photographic paper.
Then fix it in a place for long-time exposure. (Up to 3 months to 1 year!)
After a period of exposure, dismantle the pinhole camera.  Taking the photographic paper out and then scanning it.  The image appears!
After scanning, open the image with Photoshop.  Converting the image to positive.  WOW! You can now see the sun track shown in the image.
